Better processes make you less dependent

The sentence I hear most often when I look at a JTL-Wawi for the first time: "Our colleague has always done it that way." Behind it there is almost always manual work that once made sense and now just eats time. Invoices someone sends out one by one. Stock levels reconciled by hand every evening. Reports for which someone types figures from three different screens into a spreadsheet.

That's where I start. I look at what actually happens in your business, not what the manual says, and turn the recurring steps into workflows. JTL-Wawi can do far more than most businesses use. Often you don't need an add-on or a subscription for it, just the right combination of workflows, attributes and templates.

What comes out of it

Four examples from current projects:

  • Consolidated invoices that are created automatically on the cut-off date from all deliveries in a period, instead of being pieced together by hand
  • Invoices that go to the customer, their accounting team and their agency at the same time, controlled through the contacts on the customer account
  • Sales, stock and margin figures in the browser, for people on the team who don't have and don't need access to JTL-Wawi
  • Two separate JTL-Wawi installations that keep products and stock levels in sync automatically

You'll find a detailed write-up of how each of these works under Solutions.

Connecting marketplaces

Most channels today run through JTL-SCX, JTL's marketplace interface. Kaufland, OTTO and the other SCX channels all follow the same pattern: the process is always the same, only the registration with the marketplace and the linking of the matching connector differ. I've set up Kaufland several times and supported it in live operation.

Amazon and eBay still run through JTL-eazyAuction. Idealo is a special case: there's no SCX connector for it, and since the end of 2022 you don't need one. Idealo discontinued direct checkout on 31 December 2022 and has been a pure price comparison platform since. Purchases happen in your own shop again, and Idealo only needs current product data, prices and stock levels from you.

There are two ways to deliver that. The inexpensive one is an export format in JTL-Shop, a CSV file that Idealo fetches at regular intervals. It costs nothing extra but transfers with a delay, which leads to the usual problems: outdated prices and advertised products that sold out long ago. The clean way runs through Idealo's Partner Web Service (PWS 2.0) and transfers prices and stock in real time, in the JTL world usually via the LilFOOT idealo Export plugin. For a small range with stable prices the feed is enough; with frequent price changes the API pays for itself quickly. We settle which one fits your case before we start, not halfway through.

Hosting: advice instead of my own servers

I don't run my own hosting. What I offer instead is an independent assessment of which environment suits your shop, plus support with the move. In many cases a shop runs noticeably faster after switching to a suitable provider, without any change to the application itself.

It's intentional that your contract stays with the hosting provider. You keep control over your infrastructure, and I'm free to recommend what actually fits instead of selling what I run myself.

Training instead of dependency

My goal is for you to need me as rarely as possible. That's why every project includes training: I show you how the processes I've built work, how to adjust them yourself and what to watch out for with new JTL-Wawi versions. If you understand your own ERP system, you make better decisions and call less often.

For existing clients with a service agreement I'm also available in the evening or at the weekend when something is genuinely broken. But the normal case should be that you manage fine without me.
